Filtration-efficiency inflation
Oil-filter efficiency is only meaningful as a beta ratio under ISO 4548 multi-pass testing. "≥90% @ 20µm" must state the test reference — single-pass and multi-pass numbers are not the same. For OEM-level projects, request the ISO 4548 report.
Fitment & compatibility
The thread (3/4-16 UNF vs metric), gasket diameter and bypass opening pressure must all match the OE engine. A wrong thread or a mis-calibrated bypass valve is a return, and worse, can starve or bypass the engine. Confirm the OE number before quoting.
Service life & cold-start behavior
A nano or composite media supports extended oil-drain intervals, while an anti-drainback valve and a high-rebound seal protect cold starts. In cold-climate markets these are not optional — they are the difference between a repeat order and a warranty claim.
Storage humidity
Steel canisters rust in humid sea freight if not protected. Use an oil film inside, sealed polybags, and VCI (vapor-corrosion-inhibitor) paper in the carton; rust inside the can is invisible to the buyer until it contaminates the oil.
Export packaging
Steel canisters are heavy and dent-able. Double-wall export cartons, dividers, and correct carton weight limits protect the shell; a dented can is a quality-perception failure even when the filter works.

Check the canister draw
A one-piece drawn steel shell is stronger and leak-resistant than a seam-welded or thin-walled shell; it is a reliable quality signal.
Confirm bypass calibration
The bypass valve must open at the specified pressure so oil flow continues if the media clogs — a wrong opening pressure starves or bypasses the engine.
Verify anti-drainback
An anti-drainback valve keeps oil in the filter for cold-start lubrication; it is essential for vertical-mount applications.
Spin-on vs cartridge
Spin-on is a complete canister; cartridge elements (EU/JP vehicles) replace only the media. Match the OE design for the target fleet.
If you export to Russia, Central Asia or northern Europe, the anti-drainback valve and seal rebound are not optional extras — they are the product. Cold starts are brutal, and a filter that lets oil drain back or a seal that hardens at -40°C generates warranty claims fast. I would position a “cold-climate” oil filter with a high-rebound NBR seal and a robust anti-drainback valve, and let that specific value proposition win the order instead of a generic price war.
